Mr. Crimp first formed in October 2007. Originally made up of five members that played together from a ’jam night’ at Dartington Student Union where we all study. The original line-up was Andy Rawlings (Vocals), Alice Human (Vocals), Duncan Smith (Guitar), Benny Brooke (Bass) and David Lindsay (drums). Since then, musical preferences have changed the line-up with Alice leaving to pursue a more acoustic singer/songwriter route, Benny left, due to other commitments and David Lindsay most recently left as he was more interested in experimenting in other musical interests. Our current line up includes Artur Jaschke (Bass) and Gaz Davies (Drums). Artur provides an interesting sound with his six-string grungy bass playing and we jumped leaps and bounds after he joined. Jai Northover has recently taken up keys for us and things look bright. We play funk mainy with a bluesy/poppy feel. We have an original sound and are influended by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante, Jamirquoi, Jimmy Hendrix and Frank Zappa amoungst many others, especially since we all come from musical backgrounds, most hilarious of which being Andy, since he gains musical influence and vocal structure from the 90’s nu metal scene. We have finished our demo ’The lighter side of hippies’ although we intend to re-record with Pete Townsend from ’The Who’, not confirmed but pretty likely! Our latest collection of songs has been named under ’Dance like life depends on it’ altough with the re-recording of '....Hippies', we’ll probably combine the two. Our style is developing as we meander down the road of crimp but we grow stronger as the notes hit the paper, or in our case, funk meets airwaves.
